New York Public Library Engagements | Jin + Caroline

NewYorkPublicLibraryEngagements.CJ-1

My mamma always said when you know you know, and you'll move mountains to make something happen.  Caroline and Jin met through mutual friends when she was visiting New York City for the weekend from LA.  They felt a connection early on, and even though they were on opposite coasts they decided to give it a chance.  Because when you know something is special you fight for it.  You make it work.  You make things happen.

Well Jin ended up moving to LA, and proposed last fall to Caroline in Napa Valley.  (I mean can it get any more romantic).

We had so much fun running through the streets of Manhattan a few weeks ago, and I cannot wait to shoot their wedding this fall.

XO,

Kat

Orange County Engagements | Trevor & Cate

Last Monday I was able to spend the afternoon with Trevor and Cate.  Going through these images I kept finding myself smiling.  Trevor and Cate's joy is just infectious.  They love each other deeply, they love people whole heartedly, and they laugh so much.  I love that about them.  They're getting married this September, and I am thrilled for their lives to begin together!

Thanks guys for spending a hot OC afternoon with me in a field that had a TON of bugs.   Y'all were troopers!  Here are some of my favorite shots from the day:)

Brandon and Elaina

As time would have it, Elaina and Brandon began dating right before he moved to New Zealand.  What I've learned about Brandon is that when he believes in something he goes after it.  For the next almost year while he was away he pursued and fought for Elaina via emails, phone calls, and skype.  What happened over this time is that they were able to build a relationship of trust and communication.  They learned to talk through life, the ups and downs, the ins and outs, the lefts and rights.

Because of this when Brandon returned home last winter their lives were already in sync. What is special about Brandon is that he dreams big.  He does not let what other people think define or stop his dreams.  And Elaina, she's one of the most generous people I have met.  She wants to know your heart, how your wired, and will be such a champion for your dreams.  Together they are a powerhouse, and are a couple that I know will do big things for this world.

These are some of my favorite shots from their San Juan Capistrano Engagement session...

And Here We Are...

It's weird how things turn out.  If you asked me what I wanted to be when I was a little girl my response was:  Gloria Estefan, Amy Grant, or a professional tennis player.  I think my mom was a little worried that I didn't have much to "fall back on". Go big or go home right? One thing that I love about time is that really you never know how things are going to turn out.

I look back on my life, and there have been so many things that have turned out differently than I expected.  Three years ago when photography was more of a figment of my imagination I never would have guessed I would be launching my own business.  In fact, if you would have told me that at the time, most likely I would have laughed in your face.

But time has an interesting way of surprising us.

Here we are, and here I am taking a step into something unknown, and scary, and exciting all at the same time.  I feel like a little girl again as I say I want to be a photographer when I grow up.  Beyond what words can express I am overwhelmed with how my family and community have responded with a unified "Go for it".  They have pushed, challenged, asked the tough questions, and supported me through my dream chasing, and for that I am so grateful.

Without going further I must specifically thank Mike and Julie Colón for inviting me into their lives, family, and business for the last three years. Thank you both for investing your time and talent into me, and for believing in me.  Mike you took a chance on me, and you opened up to me  a whole new world of art and creativity.  God has used you both in my life in such powerful ways, and I am so so thankful for you both (and your rad kids) in my life!

I am excited for new adventures.  I am eager to get to know you and your story, and I am beyond honored to get to photograph people on one of the most precious days of their lives.

What it really feels like is that I am living a dream, and it is such a gift.

Welcome to this journey with me.
